Tank attributes in hydraulic system
Modern hydraulic systems, with pumps of high capacity, require great demand for components used in the system. Compatibility of components on quality and structure, guarantees functionality and reliability of the system.
The tank has several functions in hydraulic system. Tank should be serviced regularly. Variation of temperature in tank and pipes forms condensed water, which has to be drained through drainage plug. When water is mixed with oil it acts as catalytic impairment on the oil quality. When water is removed from the tank, it also removes other impurities that may hinder filtering oil. Air is formed in oil, e.g. through leaks in suction systems, or when starting hydraulic system.
It is important to build the tank so, that air can be separated from oil in the tank. For this to happen, oil must stay in the tank long enough. How long oil stays in the tank relates to the volume of the tank and to the flow capacity of the pump. Size of the tank is often three times (3x) the flow capacity (litres/minute) of the pump.
KOVI-tank
Structure of the Kovi-tank is a result of wide cooperation with various partners. The inside of tank was designed in cooperation with pump manufacturers and filters manufacturers. Outside structures were designed utilizing the opinions of both bodybuilders and end users.
Kovi-tank directs the influx so that air can be separated from oil as soon as possible after filtering. Oil is then directed to circulate the tank and sucked again into the system.
The inside structures are also utilized for durability and longevity of the tank. Tank gables are deep pressed with stiffening. Cloak has stiffening and aluminium reinforcement ring for mounting the filter. Attributes of aluminium as a material are excellent, no outside nor inside surface treatment is required.
Sufficient cleaning of the surface keeps the tank looking good regardless of operating life. Kovi-tanks are designed for long use. Proper mounting and service instructions always follow the Kovi-tanks, which help to achieve high quality and reliable system. Certificate of test use follows each tank. This certificate should be kept safe as it also serves as a guarantee certificate.
Technical information
| Material |
|
Kovi-tank is made of
3 mm aluminium, so called sea quality, official type EN AW 5754.
Specific weight of aluminium is 2700kg/m3, which is only 1/3 of
the weight of steel.
In comparison, a 2mm steel generally used as raw material in hydraulic
tanks, weighs double than 3mm aluminium used in Kovi-tanks. |
| Suction connector |
2x2" or 1x3" direct
suction connector with inside thread. |
| Return connector |
1x1½” inside
thread in a large filter where oil flows through 150-350 litres/minute.
Alternatively 2x1" inside thread in a small filter where oil flows
through 140-200 litres/minute. |
| Air connector |
1" connector with inside
thread on the tank top.
Normally the air filter is in front of the tank and can be used as filling opening when needed. |
| Overflow/cooling connector |
¾" overflow
connector with inside thread at the back of the tank. |
| Drainage plug |
¾" drainage
plug. |
| Extra connectors |
Kovi installs extra connectors upon request. |
| Display |
Glass display of oil surface at the end of tank. |
| A certificate of test use will follow each tank, and is also a certificate of quarantee. |
KOVI-tank manufacturing
Kovi has used aluminium
as raw material already for a long time. Experience has taught how
to treat aluminium to make good quality.
Aluminium tanks have been manufactured already for about eight years.
Several manufacturing methods have been tested and the production line
used today is highly automated. All outside seams of tanks are welded
by robots to quarantee excellent and sustained quality for each tank.
All openings in tanks are burned with laser for exact and clean result.
The need for after care is unnecessary and connectors can be welded
right on.
Aluminium plates are always protected with protective coating to
keep outside surface of the tank flawless during the entire manufacturing process.
Due to cleanliness of working methods, very little after care and cleaning
is needed, thus leaving more time to after control for which Kovi has
put much effort. Every tank is carefully inspected to spot possible
defects in product quality, e.g. each tank is test used and welding
seams ares tested with water mixture. If needed, each tank is separately
packed in cartons to keep the product flawles until it reaches the
end user.
